Furnace:  Wi-Fi Thermostat.  Natural Gas.  Heat is supplied by the heat pump which provides about 24,000 BTUs until the outside air drops below 35 degrees or so.  Then the main natural gas furnace takes over as needed to heat the entire house.  Additionally, there are about 20,000 BTUs of electric heat in the basement to keep the apartment toasty as desired.  The entire house can be kept comfy on about 36,000 BTUs, even in sub-zero conditions.

The main gas furnace is 90%+ efficient and dual stage with the first stage of 40,000 BTUs warming the house first.  The second stage of the gas furnace is 60,000 BTUs and takes over after five or ten minutes if the first stage did not reach the desired comfort level within that time frame.

The original furnace installed in 1986 was 40,000 BTUs and heated the house just fine until replaced after 22 years.  It was the smallest furnace available on the market at the time.
